SOS International has agreed to a strategic collaboration to offer quick COVID-19 testing facilities to Danes using European-produced antigens.

The development came after global experts concluded that quick and accurate testing is a crucial tool in combating the COVID-19 pandemic. At present, patients have to wait up to several days before they can receive their COVID-19 results. In the meantime, they have to remain isolated.

Under the agreement, patients will receive their COVID-19 test results within 15 minutes. The facilities shall be available at walk-in clinics in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen and selected others.

‘Waiting period is extensive’
Karin Tranberg, the executive VP for travel care at SOS, said that the waiting period is extensive as patients have to spend both working and personal days awaiting an answer.

In addition, Janus von Platen-Hallermund, the head of a SOS medical centre, said that they have qualified staff who are able to perform the tests quickly and effectively. With the number of travellers coming to Denmark at a bare minimum, SOS has the resources to offer the service to Danes, he added.

The organisation is one of the main initiatives in the Nordic region to combat the coronavirus.

The test will be made available to both private individuals and companies. Both, businesses and individuals have sent in a handful of queries to SOS ahead of the release of the first testing batch.
