One of Crown Prince Frederik’s bodyguards has been charged with traffic offences relating to a trip in January across a weather-closed Storebæltsbro.
“I can confirm that we have charged a bodyguard with traffic offences,” Niels Raasted, an investigator with independent police investigators Den Uafhængige Politianklagemyndighed told Radio24syv.
The PET agent is charged with violating traffic laws concerning compliance with traffic signs, traffic lights and other instructions.
In January, a storm called Egon paralysed traffic throughout the country and caused the authorities to close the Storebæltsbro.
Prince apologises
In spite of the closure, surveillance images showed the prince’s car crossing the bridge in the early morning hours following his attendance at a sports gala in Jutland.
In January, bridge authorities called the princely joyride unacceptable, forcing the Royal House to issue and apology.
“The crown prince is sorry it happened and can understand that the situation created frustration and anger among those who had waited for hours to cross the bridge,” said Lene Balleby, the communication and press officer for the Royal Family .
