The rumours have been swirling around for a while now, but sprinting star Peter Sagan has finally officially signed with Team Tinkoff-Saxo.
The Slovak inked a three-year deal with the Russian-owned/Danish-sponsored team, starting at the beginning of 2015. Bjarne Riis expressed excitement about the new high-profile signing.
“Peter is without doubt one of the biggest talents in cycling and one of the biggest names already,” Riis said in a press release. “He has a winning mentality, he’s visible and active in the finales and he, without doubt, has the ability to bring home victories.”
Sagan – who currently races for Cannondale and is nicknamed ‘The Terminator’ – is one of the most prolific sprinters in the world, having won four Tour de France stages and has been the overall points champion in the French race in the last three years. The 24-year-old has also won three Vuelta a España stages.

Banking on success
It’s been a busy few days for the team, which also announced yesterday that Danish sponsors Saxo Bank would remain on as co-title sponsors of the team in 2015.
In a joint statement, Kim Fournais and Lars Seier Christensen, co-heads and co-founders of Saxo Bank, said:
“Seven years ago, Saxo Bank entered a partnership with Bjarne Riis and his riders, which has led to many surprises and strong results both for the team and Saxo Bank. Therefore, we are happy to announce that we will continue as co-title sponsor of the world’s most ambitious cycling team Tinkoff-Saxo in 2015”.
