Danish businessman involved in fatal traffic accident in Ho Chi Minh City

The Vietnamese newspaper Thanh Nien News reported on Saturday that a Danish citizen was killed in a traffic accident in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in the early hours of Saturday morning, which the Danish Foreign Ministry confirmed on Sunday morning.

The deceased is reported to be a 51-year-old Danish businessman who was travelling on a motorbike on Mai Chi Tho Street when he was hit by a red car at about 1.25 am local time. He was taken to Gia Dinh Hospital but died from his injuries after a few hours.

The driver of the car reportedly fled the scene. Local police are examining traffic camera footage and applealing for witnesses.

“The Foreign Ministry is in contact with the next of kin,” the Ministry informed Berlingske, declining to give further details because of its duty of confidentiality in matters involving individuals.

According to Thanh Nien News, the deceased ran a local motorbike tour company.
