Danish singer MØ has smashed the all-time record on the web player Spotify for the most played song with ‘Lean on’, a number she co-wrote and recorded with Major Lazor and DJ Snake.

Since its release eight months ago, it has been streamed 526 million times by listeners around the world, overtaking the previous record holder, ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran, which was streamed 476 million times over an 18-month period.

“I’m speechless and so fucking happy!!! Thanks to all of u lovely people out there,” commented Mø, whose real name is Karen Marie Aagaard Ørsted Andersen, on Instagram.

The hit song has also got more than 766 million views on YouTube, which is a long way off the current record.

“We wrote this song with MØ very early from an instrumental Jr Blender created in some sessions in Trinidad. It was a strong hook,” wrote Major Lazor on Facebook.

“A year later I remixed the song at a completely different tempo and asked DJ Snake for a signature post chorus.”

MØ is also having success with her new single ‘Kamikaze’, which was recentlyselected as the ‘track of the day’ on BBC Radio 1.
