Popularity of online streaming service Bibzoom plummeting

The number of people borrowing CDs from Danish public libraries or using the free online streaming service Bibzoom has plummeted, reports DR.

Over the past two years, the number of loaned music CDs has dropped from 3.4 to 2.2 million per year.

According to Rene Boye Pedersen, a librarian at Kolding’s public library, people have found other ways to listen to music, and libraries are therefore buying fewer copies of CDs each year.

Bibzoom not a hit
And the libraries are not having much success with the free streaming service Bibzoom either.

The number of audio streams on the online platform fell markedly from 10.5 million in 2012 to 3.8 million in 2014.

So, while two years ago some 70 libraries offered the service, the figure has dropped to 52 this year.
