Experimentarium, the popular science museum in Hellerup, which is currently undergoing reconstruction work, is in flames after a fire broke out on the building’s roof.  Two people have been injured.

The fire has spread to three floors and thick, black smoke is rising from the roof.

The police were alerted shortly before 15:00, and Kristian Næsted, the operations manager at the Copenhagen Fire Brigade, has described the fire as “very powerful”.

Shopping centre evacuated
The nearby shopping centre Waterfront, located right next to the science museum, has been evacuated.

The Experimentarium in Hellerup is currently under construction. In the meantime, all of its exhibitions are being housed by a location on Papirøen in central Copenhagen.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
