Stops a ‘tryk’ in the city dead in its tracks

Located next to a lot of the binge-drinking pubs and clubs in the Gothersgade area,  this pub is somewhat sheltered from the young crowd. If you find yourself at Tryk Bar though, you are in it for the long run. Somehow you never really get further on your planned pub crawl – and one beer turns into several.

The interior is perhaps not very inventive, but it has what is required. You can hang out with your friends in a corner and not be disturbed, or you can take one of the tables in the middle of the pub next to the foosball table and be sure to be approached by other guests. The interior is designed with both purposes in mind. And even though Tryk Bar allows smoking, it shouldn’t be a deal breaker. Though it doesn’t appear very modern, the air conditioning must be very good since it isn’t too annoying putting up with all the smoke. Put it this way: it’s worth it.

The bar is mostly a beer and whisky place. The Tuborg classic is 40 kroner a pint, and they also have a wide range of beers from Germany and the USA. But if they have a trademark, it has to be their range of whiskys, which includes 80 different types. The prices range from the Aberlour 10 Y for 38kr to the Glendronach olorose sherry 33 Y for 285kr. Even though the focus is obviously on the drinks department, they are kind enough to offer a small snack menu: three types for 60kr so the lightweights can have a time-out from the drinking.

At Tryk Bar they have made a conscious effort to avoid music that is too loud and in your face – possibly a reason why it is less visited by the young crowd. So it can a great place to meet up with friends you actually want to talk to, or a date that is more than just a pretty face.

Most of the time the guests have a say regarding the playlist. So as the staff say: “Hip-hop, dance, techno, rap, techno and heavy metal are for other pubs.” Expect instead easy-to-listen-to, sing-along music that is requested and played.

So embrace the fact that Tryk Bar turns your pub crawl into a one-stop shop – and enjoy the company, the whisky and the unpretentious music it has to offer.
