One of Denmark’s best known actors, Kim Bodnia, has a leading role in the upcoming drama ‘Rosewater’, the directorial debut feature of Jon Stewart, the host of 'The Daily Show'.

The film is based on the true story of Maziar Bahari, a Iranian-Canadian journalist who was arrested in 2009 in Iran on suspicion of spying. He was then detained and brutally interrogated for 100 days in connection with his coverage of Iran’s presidential elections.

Bodnia – who is known for playing tough, rugged and occasionally violent characters in films such as ‘Pusher’, ‘In China They Eat Dogs’ and ‘Nightwatch’ – plays the part of the brutal interrogator charged with breaking Bahari, who is played by famous Mexican actor Gael García Bernal ('The Motorcycle Diaries').

Hitting the festivals
The film, which is expected to hit the silver screen sometime in November, is currently being shown at the Telluride Film Festival. It is also scheduled to appear at the Toronto International Film Festival next week.

More recently, Bodnia starred as the troubled Danish police detective Martin Rohde in the hit Nordic TV series ‘The Bridge’, which he recently quit close to the start of filming on the third season – so close that scripts had to be rewritten.

Given the success of 'The Bridge', Bodnia has never been in such high demand.
