Crimbo with a difference in Christiania
Christiania Xmas Market
The freetown of Christiania promises an unconventional Christmas market, more reminiscent of an Oriental bazaar. With a multitude of colourful stalls offering quirky handicraft items, hand-made jewellery, paper-cut Christmas mobiles, knitted sweaters and leather masks, come along to experience a time-honoured Copenhagen Christmas tradition with a twist.
The Grey Hall, Refshalevej 2, Christiania; starts Fri, ends Dec 20, open Mon-Sun 12:00-20:00; www.christiania .org
Xmas in the old days
Not sure how to get in the Christmas spirit this year? Going on a journey back in time with The Open Air Museum will work its magic. On the first two weekends of December, The Open Air Museum revives old Christmas traditions. See how traditional Christmas meals are prepared, savour the scent of the cookies spreading, cut some Christmas decorations inspired by old patterns, listen to the daughter of the Manor practise Christmas psalms on the piano in the living-room and hear stories about Christmas at the Manor 100 years ago. Visit the old farms with decorated Christmas trees. (Mette Bang Saporito)
Open Air Museum, Kongevejen 100, Lyngby; Sat & Sun, 10:00-16:00; free adm; www.kulturklik.dk

There are hands-on activities and animal fun galore, with the chance for younger visitors to meet Santa and his reindeer, while adults warm up with some hot gløgg and æbleskiver.
