Rapper L.O.C., born Liam O’Connor, said he will accept a 40-day suspended jail sentence for assault and battery handed down by an Odense court yesterday.
“The whole thing's been built up into a hurricane in a shot glass,” O’Connor, who is half Irish, told the press. “I read somewhere that I risk being sentenced to four years in prison, but you know how people sensationalise things. I just want to put the whole thing behind me.”
The incident occurred in early June at a music festival in the Funen town of Middelfart, in which the victim claims that he was hit in the shoulder by the side-view mirror of O’Connor’s vehicle. The victim then approached the rapper in order to get an apology.
A heated discussion quickly became physical when another rapper, U$O, was grabbed by the victim, leading O’Connor to punch the victim.
O’Connor insists he acted in defence of his friend, and is not guilty. Eleven witnesses were called to the stand, seven of whom spoke on behalf of the victim.
O’Connor was also arrested on charges of assault in 2003.
The assault charge hasn't cost the rapper his lucrative advertising deal with telecom TDC, nor his position as a judge on the popular television singing contest, 'Voice – Danmarks største stemme'.
