One of the most popular partnerships in Scandinavian TV history has come to a premature end. The Danish-Swedish co-production The Bridge has just been re-comissioned for its third season.

Sofia Helin will return as the Asperger-stricken cop Saga Norén, but Kim Bodnia, who played her Danish colleague Martin Rohde, has resigned from the show.

The end of season two had Rhode in a bit of a predicament, and according to an interview with Anders Landstrøm of the Swedish co-production company Film Lance, Bodnia simply didn't like the way his character evolved from there.

A large part of the script had already been written when the Danish actor pulled out, so the head writer Hans Rosenfeldt and his team have some work to do before filming starts in September.

“It is unfortunate that this should be so, but we have to just accept it and work around it. The main story stays intact,” Landstrøm told Sydsvenskan.

Fans will have to wait until autumn 2015 for the new season to screen on DR1 and SVT to find out how the producers bridged this gap.

The Bridge premiered in 2011 and has two successful remakes: a US/Mexican version produced by FX and the English/French co-production The Tunnel.
