Members of the Danish state church (folkekirken) will soon be able to receive free and anonymous pastoral care online.

Folkekirkens Fællesfond has pledged to allocate 8.3 million kroner over a 3-year period to a new project called ‘Sjælesorg på Nettet’ (spiritual care on the web).

“The aim is to rethink and revitalize the concept of pastoral care,” explained bishop Henning Toft Bro to Jyllands-Posten.

“A lot of people use social media, so we see it as a unique opportunity to bring this service out there.”

The online service will be available from January 2017.
