Tourism in Denmark is going so well this year that the number of foreign guests visiting the country will reach record highs, according to the national tourism organisation Visit Denmark.

The organisation expects that overnight stays by foreign tourists will exceed 22.4 million this year, which will make it on par with the best ever tourism year in Denmark back in 2007.

Holiday habits in general have changed and the holiday season has been expanded, Visit Denmark maintained.

“The tourists come all year round, so it’s important that Denmark doesn’t shut down when the Danes return home from the holiday resorts,” Jan Olsen, the head of Visit Denmark, said in a press release.

“The foreigners mustn’t experience half-abandoned holiday resorts – the coastal parts of Denmark need to realise there are more seasons now.”

Olsen pointed out that the Dutch, for instance, take their holidays earlier and later than the Danes, while the Germans also tend to still be vacationing after the Danes have returned home.

According to Visit Denmark, the tourism growth is largely down to an influx of tourists from Norway, Sweden and Germany, but more British, Italian and American tourists are also visiting Danish shores.
