There are racists in Dansk Folkeparti.
Kristoffer Hjort Storm, the party’s candidate for parliament in north Jutland, made that statement at a rally at a mosque in Aalborg yesterday.
“Many perceive those of us in the DF as bad racists,” Storm said, according to Nordjyske Stiftstidende “There are some who are, but it is not all of us.”
The debate was organised by the mosque. Six candidates accepted.
“Prejudices on both sides”
Mohammed Hassan Guled, the president of the mosque association, said the event was organised to show how Muslim immigrants see themselves in Danish society.
“Politicians and the media need to know that there are many Muslims who of course will vote,” Said Guled. “There are a few who get a lot of air time, but they do not represent the vast majority.”
Storm told the audience that he “was very, very happy for the invitation and hoped that the dialogue would remove prejudices on both sides”.
Dansk Folkeparti MEP Morten Messerschmidt was convicted of breaching the law’s racism paragraph in 2002. The late Jesper Langballe was convicted of the same in 2010.
