If the rainy weather has been giving you the doldrums, sit back and allow Massachusetts celtic punk rock band the Dropkick Murphys boot them out of your system.
The Murphys are the sort of act you’d expect to headline the best St Patrick’s party as indeed they have, making their name performing at one St Patty’s gig after another in the Boston area over the years.
John E ‘Dropkick’ Murphy was a legendary professional wrestler in the Massachusetts of the 1960s and 70s, an inspiration for the band both as far as his name goes as well as with respect to the bombastic, tenacious qualities that define their music.
Citing a pool of references that draw on everything from AC / DC, The Clash and even the Sex Pistols, the Dropkick Murphys started out by making a name for themselves within the niche of celtic punk, before enjoying mainstream breakthroughs in recent years.
Their latest album, 2013’s Signed and sealed in blood, is evidence of their growing global popularity, triggered no doubt in part by 2011’s Going out in style which is heralded by many aficionados as their best work to date.
Having performed in Denmark previously, some will no doubt be familiar with their floor-filling sounds and antics. For those who are not, this is not a show for the faint-hearted.
