State train operator DSB says it will need to spend between 20 and 22 billion kroner on 275 new train sets by 2030.

The company presented its future requirements in a statement released today, ahead of starting negotiations with the state.

“We want the most transparent process possible, so we are going public with our findings now,” Anders Egehus, the head of DSB operations, wrote in the statement.

“We need reliable trains. We all know the history of the IC4, and no-one, least of all DSB, wants to repeat that experience.”

Uniform goals
Overall, DSB will need about 275 new train sets, of only two or three different types, by 2030.

The goal is to reduce from the present ten types of trains used in mainline and regional traffic to more uniform train types across the rails.

Egehus said that it was important that equipment purchases were made and managed together to ensure compatibility.
