Today it become cheaper for all those going on European holidays to use their phones in another EU country, as the European Commission's new roaming fees became effective on July 1.

Prices on data roaming – the special tariffs charged by telecom companies for using a mobile phone in another EU country – are now down to half of what they used to be.

Data down 55 percent
Users will have to pay a maximum of 1.87 kroner per megabyte data within the EU, a fall of 55 percent, according to numbers from Erhvervsstyrelsen.

Calling a phone from another EU country will now cost 1.77 kroner a minute, and 0.46 kroner a minute to receive calls across borders. While receiving a text message is free, sending one costs 0.55 kroner per message.

Phone companies still have to inform customers whenever they are about to reach their maximum of 300 kroner when they are on their travels, but from today there will be room for some more data and conversations for that amount.
