They think their country is the best in the world and their taxes are too high, a British diplomat remarked whilst living in Denmark more than 300 years ago.

But have foreigners changed their view on the happy lot at Scandinavia’s bottom? If you want to know, tune in DRK tonight at 9pm to watch the first episode of 'Sådan er danskerne' (How the Danes are).

Michael Booth, a journalist, author and British expat, will in three episodes investigate if the verdict still hold true today. He will be joined by six other expats only too happy to share their experience of living with the Danes.

Stranger in paradise
One of them is Xinxin Ren Gudbjörnsson, who came here from China in 1991.

“I’m probably more critical, while the rest are more diplomatic, because of my experience moving here. I worked very hard to get through my education and I have since tried hard to improve the educational system for foreigners,” she said.

“You tell yourself you are so happy and that you live in the best country in the world, but that is an illusion. We showed the same arrogance in China during the last Qing Dynasty and we lost everything.”

Danes will be offended
If you happen to be Danish yourself, tonight is your chance to see yourself in a new light, but be prepared for a slap in the face.

“Danes watching this show will probably be offended, but I also hope they will find it funny and recognise some of the things we say.”

The first of the three episodes of 'Sådan er danskerne' airs tonight and will tackle the Danes, their Jantelov, their taxes and, of course, their food.
