What’s been described as a ‘party boat’ belonging to a local Greenlandic man apparently sunk on Tuesday night leaving four dead and one man, the boat's owner, missing.

Two of the dead have now been identified as an elderly Danish couple.

“They are a married couple from eastern Jutland who made a deal with a man from a local village to take them sailing,” Morten Nielsen from Greenlandic police told Greenland’s Sermitsiaq newspaper.

Bad weather hampers search
Four bodies, including the Danish couple, were found washed ashore on Wednesday morning near Disko Bay in northwestern Greenland.

A distress call was received by coast rescue on Tuesday night saying that a boat was sinking in the area. Police in Ilulissat immediately launched a search including an Air Greenland helicopter, boats and other rescue vehicles. The search was hampered by bad weather in the area.
