The Danish women’s handball team kicked off their Euro 2016 campaign with a tight 22-21 win against Montenegro in Group C in Malmö last night.

Despite leading comfortably at the break, the Danes were forced to endure a nail-biting finish thanks to a furious comeback by the Balkan team in the second half.

“It’s great because we don’t have too many of those kinds of wins,” Klavs Bruun Jørgensen, Denmark’s coach, told DR Nyheder.

“We faced a tough defence, but there are still lots of things in our attack we can improve on. I think we’ll get there and I am satisfied with our start.”

In Group C’s other match, Czech Republic upset Hungary 27-22. The Danes take on Hungary tomorrow at 20:45 in Malmö.
