IKEA recalls lamps over shock risk

Damaged electrical wires could electrify the Gothem lamp’s metal parts

The Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has recalled its Gothem table and floor lamps due to a risk of electric shock.

The news comes after two customers and one employee received electric shocks from the lamps, though none were seriously injured.

“The Gothem lamps can be returned to all IKEA warehouses and the full price will be refunded,” IKEA wrote in a press release.”

“A receipt is not necessary to get your money back. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

Shocking news
According to IKEA, the problem is due to damaged electrical wires that can electrify the lamp’s metal parts.

The lamps have been on sale at all IKEA warehouses since October 2015.
