Metro could be delayed by two years
Originally, the contractor was assured that it could work 24 hours a day
Metroselskabet, the company behind the construction of the Cityring expansion of the Metro, has said that the new subway, which was originally scheduled to open in December 2018, will probably open in 2020, not in 2019 as it said back in February.
Henrik Plougmann Olsen, the head of Metroselskabet, told Jyllands-Posten newspaper that the Metro would be delayed by two months if they could just get on with it, but with the authorities continuing to slow down production because of noise complaints, it is beginning to look more like a two-year delay.
“At the moment we are negotiating intensely with the contractor about how long we have to push the opening date,” Olsen said.
Critical report coming
In the original contract, the contractor was assured that it could work 24 hours a day – something that was agreed to by the state, the City Council and Frederiksberg Council.
“Nobody envisioned the number of complaints back then,” Olsen said.
The state auditor, Rigsrevisionen, is due to reveal a report about the Metro construction sometime today that is expected to be heavily critical of the project.
