A new bike playground project developed by the Danish Cyclists’ federation and backed by Nordea Fonden and ten Danish municipalities is aimed at creating a safe and fun area where children can improve their cycling skills.

In 2011, the Federation paired up with Nordea Fonden to create a mobile playground bike-lane which was tested in various locations around the country. The success of this endeavour led to a further development of the idea.

“Experience has shown that bike playgrounds are a great way to get children to move and be safe in traffic," said Klaus Bondam, director of the Cyclists' Union for NordeaFonden. "We are looking forward to spreading this concept so that children throughout Denmark can benefit."

Bondam said that bike playgrounds help children be active and learn to become cautious in traffic.

"Playgrounds help ensure and develop the unique Danish bicycle culture " Bondam added.
