Thousands across the country will spend this evening hunting for bargains at stores staying open late as part of the American discount-shopping day Black Friday. But according to police, the best bargains of all will be waiting for burglars at the shoppers' homes.

Southern Jutland police warns on Twitter that Fridays are usually the busiest days for burglars.

Open until 10pm tonight
While most of the burglaries on Friday take place between 8am and 4pm while most people are at work, a third tend to occur between 4pm and midnight.

Copenhagen's biggest malls, Fisketorvet and Fields, will this evening be open until 10pm as part of their participation in Black Friday.

Neighbourhood Watch a good idea
The Southern Jutland police recommends shoppers to ask their neighbours to watch over their property while they are out at the sales.

According to the police, having a local Neighbourhood Watch organisation reduces the risk of burglaries by up to 25 percent.
