Woman dies after being found unconscious on beach
UPDATE 15:40, 1 October 2012: Police have now ruled out foul play in the case of the victim. Forensics experts have ruled that the woman died as a result of drowning.
ORIGINAL: A woman has died in hospital after being found unconscious on a beach yesterday afternoon near the holiday resort Vigsø Bugt Feriecenter near Hanstholm.
The 36-year-old woman, originally from Myanmar, lived in the resort with her husband and two small children in the section for asylum seekers.
According to Central and West Jutland police, the woman’s family said she left her home to do laundry. She never returned and was later found unconscious 800 meters away on the beach wearing only jeans and a bra.
Police are trying to determine whether a crime was committed and have searched the nearby area with dogs to try and find the rest of her clothes.
Police find the incident suspicious both because the woman was found with injuries to her face and because it is unlikely she had walked all the way down the beach wearing such little clothing.
The woman’s husband has been taking in for questioning and the police are now looking for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly interested in speaking to a group of people and the owner of a car parked nearby.
“We are looking for a black passenger car that was parked close to the water at about 13:30 on Sunday. We would like to speak to the driver and see if he noticed anything suspicious,” deputy police commissioner for Central and West Jutland Police, Andreas Søgaard, told Ritzau. “We also want to get in touch with a group of five to seven individuals that were seen walking along the beach toward the west.”
