A group of right-wing nationalists, Danmarks Nationale Front, who refuse to identify their views with nazism or fascism, will be protesting at Christiansborg Slotsplads on Saturday at 15:00, hours before the continent's eyes turn to Copenhagen for the European Song Contest final.

The outspokenly racist group expects up to 500 people at its anti-mosque demonstration.

"We hope we can carry out our protests peacefully," an unnamed spokesperson told Ekstra Bladet.

"We can't prevent the counter-protests, but we want to prevent a brawl. Causing trouble is not the plan at all."

Left challenging right
In response, a left-wing anti-fascist group, Racismefri By, is also organising a protest in the city on Saturday.

Police said they will stay alert to both protests but that they don't expect a violent clash between the groups.

"We will keep our eyes and ears on all of it, and someone will be in charge of watching these demonstrations and making sure they don't cause unrest," a vice-inspector, Henrik Møller Jakobsen, told Politiken.

He added that the police hadn’t found it necessary to ask the organisers to wait until after Eurovision to hold their demonstrations.
