Kurt Westergaard turns 79 today. The controversial Danish cartoonist shot to fame when his infamous drawing of Mohammed with a bomb in his turban was published by Jyllands-Posten in 2005, drawing worldwide outrage from Muslims. Needless to say, his birthday won't be widely celebrated.

Since the cartoons have been published, Westergaard has received a number of death threats as well as a number of attempts on his life. After a plot to kill Westergaard was uncovered by PET in 2008, Westergaard was placed in police protection, where he still remains.

His protection has not deterred some who were offended by his cartoons though. In 2010 an attacker entered Westergaard's home with an axe, but was shot and wounded by the police after Westergaard managed to reach his panic room.

Westergaard wasn't alone on the night in question as he was babysitting his five-year-old granddaughter. His decision to leave her alone with an axe-wielding madman was enough to earn him the title of  'Worst Grandfather Ever' from babble.com.
