Three people have lost their lives on Sunday after their boat hit drifting ice and keeled over outside Uunmmannaq in north-western Greenland, KNR reports.

Six people were on board the small boat, which was carrying building materials. They were on their way to repair 'Santa's hut', a wooden house and tourist attraction that has been known as the mythical home of Santa Clause since it was featured in the children's Christmas calendar show 'Nissebanden i Grønland' on DR1 in 1989.

When police reached the scene, several nearby ships were trying to rescue the distressed crew members, but unfortunately three of them didn't survive exposure to the cold water.
