This week's dates:

June 5:
Grundlovsdag

Denmark doesn't have a national day, so Constitution Day on Thursday is the closest we get. In 1849, Denmark signed its first democratic constitution on June 5. It was later revised in 1915 and for the last time in 1953 on the same date again.

It used to be a holiday, but now workplaces mark it in their own way. Usually people leave work at noon when most stores also close.

June 5:
Fars Dag

Fathers always get overlooked, even on the day that is specifically dedicated to them.

It's unclear why Father's Day, introduced from the US in 1935, had to be on the same day as Constitution Day, a far more important holiday.

A brief attempt to move the date in the 1950s didn't really catch on. Try to remember to buy your dad a beer on Constitution Day. He deserves it.
