More than 10,000 drivers were caught speeding during last week’s nationwide police traffic controls, reports Berlingske.

Some 5,400 drivers were caught speeding in towns, 1,600 drivers were going too fast on the motorway, and 3,200 drivers were exceeding the limit on regular roads.

According to the police, the results indicate speeding continues to be a problem and that targeted action is needed.

Speeding significantly increases the risk of traffic accidents. In 2013, it was the cause of about half of all accidents in which passengers were killed.
