During two periods in May, commuters travelling between Funen and Zealand could experience some serious delays and cancellations due to rail maintenance.

According to rail operator Banedanmark, no trains will be going between Odense and Roskilde from May 4-8 (over the Ascension Day bank holiday) and between Odense and Nyborg from May 13-17.

“It will be a big struggle for passengers when we have to work on the main stretch, which a lot of people use every day,” said Steen Neuchs Vedel, the head of Banedanmark.

“But we pick periods where we know there are fewest passengers on the stretch. So we are prioritising times where we annoy the least.”

Rail work season
Banedanmark said there will be buses available for passengers trying to pass through the aforementioned stretches. Meanwhile, the train stoppage would likely lead to an increase in car traffic.

The May rail work heralds the beginning of a considerable rail renewal project between Odense and Nyborg that is expected to last until August 7.
