Region Mid-Jutland is looking to become the first regional authority to ban public workers from smoking during work hours.

Hospitals are already smoke-free, but Region Mid-Jutland now wants all its workers to adhere to the no-smoking policy.

“The same rules should apply to all employees in Region Mid-Jutland,” Christian Boel, the head of Region Mid-Jutland, told DR Nyheder.

We’re adults
Boel contends that regional buildings should be an example in terms of responding to the harmful effects of tobacco.

However, employee representative Ole Echers maintained that the region should instead be focusing on improving the health of all its employees through a fruit basket initiative or exercise teams.

“We are adults and can regulate it [smoking] ourselves. We don’t need help with that,” Echers told DR Nyheder.
