Inspired by Homer’s epic work The Odyssey, this European theatre project begins on Wednesday as part of the ongoing Asteroiden Festival.

Each summer, over the next three years in three different regions of Europe, artists from different countries will offer locals the chance to share their stories in workshops to collectively re-imagine The Odyssey through “instant” theatre pieces – all performed, rather fittingly, on a boat, along with a show.

In Copenhagen, the inspiration is the episode on the island of Thrinakia that leads to the returning Trojan War hero’s final ship and crew paying the ultimate price for eating the cattle of the sun god Helios.

“The basic idea of the instant project is to put together a theatrical group of professionals with guys, actors or non-actors, from Copenhagen and use their language and the Odyssey theme to recount the stories,” explains Alessandro Mascia, an actor and co-director working on the project.
