A car bomb attack injured three Danish soldiers in Afghanistan, the army’s operational command HOK announced today.

The soldiers were on a mine-clearing mission 20 kilometres east of Gereshk in the Helmand Province when an IED (improvised explosive device) placed in a parked car exploded near their vehicle.

A helicopter immediately evacuated the soldiers to the hospital at Camp Bastion where they received treatment. Their lives are now out of danger and they were able to notify their relatives themselves.

The group was assigned on the team DANCON ISAF 16, which is about to end duty in the desert and is currently preparing its return to Denmark.

While the combat mission in Afghanistan is officially over, Danish presence in the troubled country remains dangerous.

On January 17, a Danish woman working with the EU's police mission EUPOL was among the 21 people killed in a Taleban terror attack on a Lebanese restaurant in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Denmark's 12-year involvement in the War in Afghanistan cost the lives of 43 Danish soldiers.
