Tropical storm threatening Danish summer weather

Despite Bertha’s best efforts, August will still be warmer than normal

The remarkable temperatures and sticky humidity that have roasted Denmark over the past few weeks look to be coming to an end thanks to the tropical hurricane Bertha, which is currently wrecking havoc off the south-east coast of the US.

According to the national meteorologists DMI, Bertha is moving north, which will bring low pressure systems over to Denmark, translating into lower temperatures and harder winds.

“The energy and heat will create low pressure systems which are relatively small but powerful,” Martin Lindberg, a spokesperson from DMI’s Maritime Service, told Ekstra Bladet.

“As of now, it looks like it will hit the Danish west coast on Monday morning and perhaps already Sunday and it could lead to a storm, or a gale at the minimum.”

Still summer left
In earlier prognoses, DMI had been optimistic about next week’s weather, but Bertha has changed that, although it doesn’t mean that summer is in its final death throes.

“In the last week of August there is a slight tendency in the prognoses for more stable weather, because a high pressure system looks to be once again building up over northern Europe,” DMI wrote on its website.

DMI also indicated that, despite Bertha’s best efforts, August will still be warmer than normal.
