Chicago beer enthusiasts (read: Chicago residents) are in for a treat this week, as Copenhagen’s WarPigs brewery is extending its operations to span the Atlantic.

WarPigs, founded in 2015 as a collaboration between American brewery Three Floyds and Mikkeller’s owner Mikkel Borg Bjergso, will establish its transatlantic foothold in Chicago, neighbouring Three Floyds’ home turf of Indiana.

Available at select locations across Chicago, WarPigs’ American operations begins with three beers that can be consumed via draught or can: Lazurite IPA, Salmon Pants lager and Foggy Geezer Hazy IPA. All three varieties are current or past selections of WarPigs’ Copenhagen brewpub.

The beers are to be made under contract by breweries in Wisconsin and Illinois –both states to which WarPigs plans to expand distribution, along with Ohio and Minnesota.

When questioned on whether the brand planned to open a second brewpub in Chicago, a WarPigs spokeswoman said: “It could happen.”
