Dismiss the USA at your peril. Well, okay, you can, particularly now they’ve got rid of Landon Donovan, but they still have a record most teams would be proud of.

However, a closer look at their record reveals at the last six World Cups reveals: no wins, last 16, no wins, quarter-finals, no wins, last 16. So put your money on the trend continuing in a tough group alongside Portugal, Germany and Ghana.

“The good thing about being a Danish-American is if the Danes don’t make it, I’ve always got Old Glory to lean on,” says head journalist Christian Wenande (left), who has family in Wyoming, hence the tribute to 'Brokeback Mountain'.

And just in case you want to 'go local' to watch a game, check out our guide to the best bars in town for finding authentic nationalistic fervour.
