The Legacy will soon hit American screens

Another Danish drama will follow in the steps of The Killing and The Bridge

American viewers can look forward to meeting Arvingerne (The Legacy), the latest DR drama success story following in the fine tradition of 'Forbrydelsen' ('The Killing') and 'Borgen'.

Universal Cable Productions in the US plans to adapt Maya Ilsoe's family drama for an English-speaking audience and has purchased the rights to the show, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Doug Liman, who directed all the Bourne movies, is on board to produce the US adaptation.

Our craziest relatives
"The Legacy features the kind of extraordinary characters who are truly unique and remind us of some of our favourite (and craziest) relatives," he told Hollywood Reporter.

'Arvingerne' became an instant hit when the first episode of the ten-part family drama aired in January. The story follows four brothers and sisters who meet to settle the estate of their late mother, an internationally acclaimed artist. But what should have been a quick and painless process ends up revealing their deepest secrets and lies.

When an English version of the Danish drama is finally realised, it will join Scandinavian series like 'Forbrydelsen' and 'Broen' ('The Bridge') as shows that have been remade for subtitle-shy US audiences.
