Wild at heart

As part of the Wild at heart theme, the CJF 2014 presents the Danish singer and composer Broken Twin, who goes by the real name Majke Voss Romme.

She released her debut album May in April at the prestigious American label ANTI (including Tom Waits, Betty Lavette, Tinariwen and others).

The record has already garnered praise throughout Denmark and abroad, where Majkes unique voice and stylish song writing is emphasised as being more than out of the ordinary.

Broken Twin’s universe is at once both fragile and strong. It is intimate and based on the fine text of honesty and hope and a melodious musical starting point.

Broken Twin uses a setup of bass, piano, guitar, vocals and percussion mixed with whirlwinds of creaking piano chairs and floating vocals.

Her music has been compared to the musical universe of Feist, Nico and Anthony and the Johnsons. PITCHFORK (US), says this of Broken Twin’s sound: “There’s something about the unaffected clarity of Broken Twin that rings true straight away: The tremor in her proud voice, sure as an arrow in contrast to the lonely pedal steel caws that arc throughout the song, as she sings of a break-up shivering down lonely spines, stark in the moon’s reflection, over a humble, clanky piano line.”
