Foreign minister meeting with US counterpart in Washington

As well as John Kerry, Martin Lidegaard will also meet members of Congress and speak at the Brookings Institute

The Danish foreign minister, Martin Lidegaard, will be in Washington for two days this week to meet with the US secretary of state, John Kerry, about the crises in Ukraine and Syria.

The meeting will also focus on the Arctic region, climate and energy issues, like adjustment to green energy solutions.

“There are huge global challenges and important subjects on out common agenda,” Lidegaard said in a press release. “During my meeting with John Kerry, we will also discuss how the EU and the USA can jointly apply the right pressure for a peaceful development in Ukraine.”

A full schedule
Lidegaard went on to convey the importance of having good allies and the essential role that the US plays in the world in conjunction with the UN and NATO.

Aside from meeting Kerry, Lidegaard’s US trip from May 6-7 will also include meeting members of the US Congress and other leading figures concerning international security policy and the West’s relationship with Russia.

He will also be the keynote speaker at an event at The Brookings Institution think-tank regarding energy security and the crisis in Ukraine.
