UPDATE – May 11, 2010, 3:30 PM

One of the three people injured in this morning’s blast at Amager power station remains hospitalised with severe burns. The other two accidents victims have been released. The accident happened while power plant employees were mounting a sensor to measure the amount of wood pellets left in a silo.

A clump of pellets were stuck in the silo, and an independent company that uses a procedure involving a control explosion was brought in  to loosen the pellets. The explosion created a fire in the silo and three of the private firm’s workers were injured. The investigation into the incident is continuing

Three people are reported injured after something went wrong during a planned demolition of an old silo at Amager Power Station.

Initial reports said that ten people had been wounded but police now say that three people that were standing near the demolition site were injured, one seriously. The injured were taken to the trauma centre at Rigshospitalet.

The accident happened at about 8:30am this morning at Kraftværksvej 37 in Copenhagen. The Copenhagen Fire Department has cordoned off a large area around the plant in case of another explosion.

“We have created a barrier of 50 metres around the site and are looking for hot spots," Jan Sørensen, a fire department official, told jp.dk. “There is still a possibility of an explosion caused by the dust from the first accident.”
