The professional Danish boxer Micki Nielsen is next week due to appear at Copenhagen City Court where he will face charges of causing grievous violence – a crime that carries a potential six-year prison sentence. Nielsen is pleading not guilty on the grounds that he acted in self-defence.

The charges stem from an incident in November last year when the 21-year-old younger brother of boxer Patrick Nielsen knocked out two people at Copenhagen Central Station.

According to the indictment, Nielsen knocked out a 23-year-old man – who has also been charged with violence after smashing a bottle into the face of a Nielsen's little brother Kevin – before kicking him in the head while he was on the ground unconscious.

Pleading not guilty
The police contend that Nielsen also punched and knocked out a woman during the same incident.

As recently as June 1, the undefeated Nielsen won a fight in Moscow on the same night as his older brother lost his first professional career bout to the Russian fighter Dmitry Chudinov.
