Copenhagen Police have arrested a 20-year-old man and searched a Hells Angels clubhouse in connection with an attack in Christiania over the weekend.

“I can confirm that we were at Siljangade [the Amager clubhouse for the Hells Angels] because the man that is suspected in the brutal attack in Christiania was arrested outside the house,” the police's lead investigator, Jan Høier Mogensen, told Ritzau news service.

Mogensen would not say whether someone other than the suspect was arrested or how the suspect was connected to the address or the Hells Angels group.

The arrest and search came in response to a 26-year-old eastern European suffering severe head trauma after being brutally assaulted on Pusher Street in Christiania on Saturday night.

Christiania residents had warned the perpetrator, who was known in the area, to turn himself in after the brutal attack or else they would identify him to the police. On Monday afternoon, after the man had not turned himself over to the authorities, that’s exactly what Christiania residents did, leading the police to make the arrest.

The suspect has been accused of causing gross bodily harm and faces preliminary questioning later today.

The violent assault was the second incident to occur in the Christiania area in the last week after a 20-year-old Italian man was stabbed outside Christiania last Thursday.
