Southern Jutland police report their first case of confiscating a car off a drunk driver

Driver falls foul of tough new law

The police in southern Jutland seized a car on Wednesday evening under the powers given to them by the new drink driving law, which came into effect on July 1, Metroxpress reports.

The vehicle, driven by a 24-year-old man, was stopped by police in Haderslev. Two tests taken either side of a 15-minute interval showed that the driver was five times the legal limit for driving and therefore over the threshold for confiscating the driver’s car.

The police wrote in a press release that it was the first car to be confiscated in southern Jutland since the law came into force at the beginning of the month.

The driver’s blood is being tested to confirm the alcohol level measured. If the confiscation is not appealed, the car will be sold at public auction.
