A guilty verdict in Arek Onyszko’s domestic violence case has resulted in his dismissal from Odense football club

Odense Boldklub’s goalkeeper, Arek Onyszko, was found guilty in a city court on Wednesday of domestic violence against his ex-wife and will now be released from the team, reports MetroXpress newspaper.

The Polish footballer was sentenced to one month in jail and two months suspended prison time for an incident on 22 June, where he went to his former wife’s apartment and reportedly beat her and dragged her by the hair.

According to OB president Kim Brink, the verdict means Onyszko’s contract with the club will be immediately terminated.

‘Arek has been a good goalie for OB and was a big reason behind our securing second place in the league this past season,’ said Brink. ‘But now we have to move on and we have three other goalkeepers ready on the club.’

Onyszko said he ‘was very sorry’ for the incident and deeply regretted his behaviour.
