Police searching for suspects in Vesterbro area

A shooting outside a mosque in the Vesterbro district has cost a 21-year-old man of Pakistani origin his life. Two other men are also reported to have been injured in the incident.

Police believe the shooting occurred immediately after the end of a prayer service celebrating the end of Ramadan was part of a conflict among young men in the Pakistani community.

According to reports and eyewitness accounts, a scuffle between two groups of young men broke out as the congregation of about 1,000 people left the building.

As many as 20 shots are believed to have been fired in the incident, which also resulted in another man being shot and a third stabbed.

It is uncertain how many people were involved in the exchange, but police are searching for a heavyset man in his 30s and apparently of Pakistani origin who was seen standing over the victim during the shooting.

The man is set to have fled the scene in a green van with a registration number starting with the letters RD.
