With a name inspired by a sexual position between two women, Scissor Sisters are a group of energetic performers who will be thrusting themselves onto a venue near you on October 11. The flamboyant New York band is glam rock, pop and electro all rolled into one dizzying, brash, upbeat spectacle. At the beginning of their career, in the early naughties, they performed as part of an underground Cabaret show that also featured an artist dressed as a giant vagina, singing “Lick me in my wet spot” to the tune of ‘Hit Me With Your Best Shot’. The band is certainly racy, and you’ll most probably feel like dancing when they come to Amager Bio. Tickets are 350kr from www.billetlugen.dk.

The xx are an English trio who want to detach themselves from their exes, including their former school, Elliott School, where they all met alongside several other famous bands like Hot Chip and Four Te. “A teacher from Elliott, who had never even taught us, said how great we were,” one of them once said. “It’s a bit annoying.” And they were quick to set the record straight on an ex-band member, publicly announcing they had dropped Baria Qureshi in 2009, contradicting media reports that she left due to exhaustion. But no-one likes to have a friend who constantly bitches about their ex. So, let’s highlight some of the positives – and there are many. The group’s self-titled 2009 debut, which they impressively produced themselves, rated highly on the ‘best of the year’ lists – taking ninth spot on the Rolling Stone list and second for NME. Their sound embraces hushed vocals and dark, dreamy synth, with stunning results. Drift off in a beautiful state of melancholy and soaring notes at Falconer Salen on November 25. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. That’s what a Grizzly Bear sounds like. Well, almost. The Brooklyn band sounds a bit more like a combination of psychedelic, folk and pop than their hairy forebear. These guys are well worth checking out. Radiohead’s guitarist Johnny Greenwood called Grizzly Bear his favourite band when they toured together in Toronto in 2008. The following year, the group released their widely acclaimed album with the unpronounceable title, Veckatimest. It topped the Wall Street Journal’s best albums list, came sixth on both Pitchfork and the New York Times lists and took number eight in Time. Not too shabby at all. Their latest album, Sheilds, was leaked on the net last month. Help them make up for their losses by purchasing a ticket for their show at Falconer Salen on October 28. Continuing on the animal theme, Band of Horses are also galloping into Falconer Salen next month. This American rock band is very popular among Danish indie kids. Jump on the bandwagon and grab a ticket to see their November 11 performance at www.billetlugen.dk for 350kr.

Horses too slow for you? How about upping the CCs with a seat at the Danish FIM Speedway Grand Prix? Sure, there’s plenty of time before the event takes off at Parken next June, but surely having a hot ticket in your clutches over the winter will be enough to get you through the dark, depressive months. If drag racing seems a bit too low-brow, an evening at the theatre might be more appropriate. Harold Pinter’s play Old Times is being performed by That Theatre Company and Why Not Theatre Company at Krudttønden for a month starting from October 24. Erotic. Sensual. Haunting. Poetic. Agnes Obel also sounds good. The Danish singer/songwriter spent most of her secondary school life making pottery and playing music, before ditching class for music full-time. After releasing her debut album in 2010, one of her latest singles, ‘Riverside’, has made a splash abroad, featuring in a few TV shows, including Grey’s Anatomy. She’s got a gorgeous voice. Let it seduce you on December 11 at the beautiful Det Kongelige Teater’s Gamle Scene. Tickets are 120-370kr from www.billetlugen.dk.

From the white-haired Dane with an angelic voice, to the dance event of the season, which since the very start has always been a strictly all white affair. Sensation is coming to Parken on November 3, this year with the theme ‘Source of Light’.
