Police report a self-immolation suicide outside Brøndby City Hall

A 40-year-old man has died after pouring petrol over his body and setting himself on fire outside Brøndby City Hall, according to a police report.

"It appears to have been a desperate act," police spokesperson Brian Larsen told DR Nyheder.

The police said that they have classified the incident as suicide and notified the man's family.

Verdict may be the cause
Eyewitnesses working at the City Hall said that before the man set himself ablaze, he had spoken with an employee at the social services who had informed him of a verdict in a case.

Brøndby mayor Ib Terp (S) said the employees are now receiving crisis counselling.
