It’s the third time in four years that a Danish company wins the European Inventor Award
The Danish entrepreneur Peter Holme Jensen has been awarded the prestigious European Inventor Award for his company’s ground-breaking clean water technology invention.
Jensen’s company, Aquaporin, has come up with an invention that could potentially revolutionise the production of clean water, according to DR Nyheder.
“Aquaporin is incredibly proud to have been awarded the Oscar of the patent world. The prize proves how unique the technology is, and that it is capable of competing on the global stage,” Aquaporin wrote in a press release.
Modelled on naturally occurring water-purifying proteins, so-called aquaporin, the water filters invented by Jensen and his team provide an energy-efficient method for supplying ultrapure water on an industrial scale. It has been patented in 40 countries around the world.

Massive potential
Aquaporin won in the small and medium sized company category, ahead of the Spanish mobile antennae producer Fractus and Sweden’s Hövding which designed a bicycle helmet inspired by airbags in cars.
“Peter Holme Jensen’s invention – with its considerable energy savings in the production of ultra clean water – will have a massive ecological and economic impact,” Benoît Battistelli, the president of the European Patent Office, said in a press release.
“The technology can be used in de-salting plants and can be an important element in tackling the global lack of clean drinking water.”
It’s the third time in four years that a Danish company has won the European Inventor Award.
